About a month ago we created tutorial on how to create your own gdm theme, we would add some stuff to this tutorial and will explain exactly how to install it on ubuntu or another linux operating system.

We got tons of questions on how to convert png file or another image format into svg,  the question is a few words, use your gimp Just save file somwhere as .svg .  You can make .svg files as any vector graphics you want using inkscape, install inkscape easily with synaptic or using command apt-get install inkscape from shell.

Once we created our directory of files described here : how to create your own gdm theme , we should compress this directory into .tar.gz file

To install the gdm theme on ubuntu go to system > administration > Login Window , click on local on top menu , click add and navigate to compressed file. Wait a few seconds and you will be able to choose it from gdm themes list.
